history
HG Fine Art began as Hubert Gallery over three decades ago on Manhattan's Upper East Side. The gallery then specialized in modern master works on paper by such artists as Picasso, Matisse and Calder. In 2016, the gallery began to focus more on presenting works by established contemporary artists.
Location
The gallery maintains a shared exhibition space in partnership with Galerie Mourlot located at 16 East 79th Street. We operate a separate office and storage facility at the Knickerbocker Press, in New Rochelle, New York. Originally built in 1892 by G.P. Putnam and Sons as a working printing press, the 70,000 square foot building now houses mixed use commercial lofts and is designated a historic landmark.
OWNER
Owner, Lydia Furuta, is an artist, art dealer and seasoned gallerist. She was the Director of Hubert Gallery when the gallery was located on Madison Ave and 80th Street. She holds a B.A. in Studio Art from the University of California, at Irvine and was an M.F.A. candidate at the School of Visual Arts, New York. She began her career in 1993 as a Curatorial Assistant at the Craft & Folk Art Museum, Los Angeles. In the late ‘90s she moved to New York, working first as a Gallery Assistant for Jensen Fine Arts, on the Upper East Side and later serving as the Associate Director at Mimi Ferzt Gallery in SoHo. She also held the position of Associate Sales Director at Hollis Taggart Gallery in Chelsea. In 2023, she became the owner of Hubert Gallery and changed the name to HG Fine Art to reflect its new business model. Today, in partnership with Galerie Mourlot at 16 East 79th Street, HG Fine Art holds 3-4 solo exhibitions each year while continuing to expand its roster of contemporary artists.
